Angela Lyons is an Associate Professor, Director for the Center for Economic and Financial Education, and Research Fellow at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the United States. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests include economic and financial inclusion, financial and digital literacy, poverty and inequality, and the economic empowerment and protection of vulnerable populations. To date, Dr. Lyons has assisted over 40 countries in creating more inclusive and resilient societies around three main pillars–people, planet, and prosperity. Her current work leverages the power of new frontier methods in data science such as machine learning and geospatial analysis to address issues of global poverty and economic vulnerability and to promote the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
