Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro / BRICS Policy Center

The BRICS Policy Center / Centro de Estudos e Pesquisas BRICS (BPC) is a think tank affiliated to the Institute of International Relations of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). BPC is an independent, non-partisan and non-profit research center located in Rio de Janeiro.

The Center is dedicated to the study and analysis of global transformations and their implications for Brazil and the Global South. It aims to contribute to public debate and policy-making in order to reduce inequalities and promote a rights-based agenda. The BPC intends to influence public institutions, legislators, civil society and others key stakeholders involved in the policy-making process. To achieve its purpose, BPC works through a combination of training, qualified research, strategic analysis, and public advocacy. Since 2011, BPC has been ranked among the world’s top think tanks and is a reference for the academic community, policymakers and civil society organizations around the world.

BPC’s research programs include: (i) BRICS and International Order, (ii) BRICS-URBE, (iii) Global South Unit of Mediation (GSUM), (iv) Laboratory of International Cooperation and Finance for Development (LACID), (v) Socio-Environmental Platform and (vi) Innovation and Development Governance.

The Center encourages cooperative partnership and information exchange among research institutions and continuously expands its network of partnerships and institutional cooperation with other Think Tanks and research organizations in Brazil and abroad.   BPC’s research programs are coordinated by researchers affiliated to the Institute of International Relations of PUC-Rio, who have the assistance of graduate students (masters and doctoral candidates) and interns (undergraduate students).
